Indonesian Banking Sector Remains Optimistic Despite Volatility

Liputan6.com, Jakarta - Entrepreneurs in the sector of banking remain optimistic regarding Indonesian economy, despite signs of volatility and continuous uncertainty in various sectors which have been severely affected by the global and the national-scale crisis.

Many initially feared crises akin to the political and economic upheaval felt in 1998. But such fear does not come as a demotivating hindrance for those in the banking sector.

They have anticipated such economic climate and they have tried to design preventive measures that would benefit their existence in the banking sector.

"Our economy is very unlikely to experience crisis akin to that of in 1998 because we have so many reserves in our national bank and we have scores of capital to rely on," Independent Commissioner of PT Bank Mandiri Tbk, Goei Siauw Hong said in Malang, Friday (11/9/2015).

The Director of Finance and Strategy of Mandiri Bank, Kartika Wirjoatmodjo said that Indonesia should not worry of the possibility of entering a crisis like the one in 1998 because the banking sector is still at a very safe stage, and therefore it would be an exaggeration for many to make hasty assumption regarding the collapse of Indonesian economy.

Indonesian Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, Darmin Nasution stated on Monday 7 September 2015 that the government economic policies will be issued this mid week. The policy package is said to be released on Wednesday 9 September 2015.

"It is very likely that such policies to be formally announced on this upcoming Wednesday," Minister Darmin said.

Minister Darmin said that he has been going through a series of deliberation with other involving ministries to design the national economic policies. This is because of the growing fear that many claim as resemblance to the crisis in 1998.
