Papua Population Face Extreme Hunger as Three Areas Raining Snow

Liputan6.com, Jakarta Three areas in Agandugume district of Papua have reportedly been subjugated from unusual hailstorm since last month.

This phenomenon is detrimental to the plantation's chain of production and has threatened the survival of the population’s livestock.

The unexpected hail has also caused for the temperature to drop at worrying level that it no longer supports the productivity of food resources plantation and the well- being of animals in each family's farm.

This means that the living things, especially the population of these areas will have to face the likeliness of going through famine.

Responding to this alarming issue, Papua Governor, Lukas Enembe went to appease the growing nationwide concern by claiming that such natural phenomenon which occurred in Kabupaten Puncak is nothing new to the areas affected.

He further informs how the Regent of Kabupaten Puncak, Repinus Telenggen is now on his way to visit these three areas affected by hail.

"I have communicated with the Regent of Puncak, Willem Wandik and he gave me an assurance of his willingness to hold the responsibility in safeguarding the people residing in these affected areas," Governor Lukas informed, Monday (13/7/2015).

"Right now, we are just going to wait for their reports about the condition of the affected areas and wait for the instruction as to what needs to be provided to alleviate the affected people and areas," he continued.

According to him, these areas are very susceptible to famine and death as the hail comes on a yearly basis and wrecked havoc the plantation sites along with the barnyard for the livestock.

Furthermore, it has been learned that these areas have no streetlights and signal for any mode of communication which make them suffer from endless blackout during night time with no reception to help them update the alarming transformation of its weather condition. (Akp/Rie)
