RI Targeting US$ 100 Billion Worth of 'Green' Investment

RI government sets the inclusion of environmentally- friendly investments in the short to middle term national development plan.

Liputan6.com, Jakarta - President Joko 'Jokowi' Widodo has instructed the government under him to prioritize the inclusion of environmentally- friendly 'green' investments in the short to middle term National Development Plan (RPJMN) for the period of 2015- 2019.

The government is ambitiously targeting as much as US$ 100 billion, equivalent to Rp 1,293 trillion for ‘green’ investment in the following 5 years embedded in each business sector.

The Head of Capital Investment Board (BKPM), Franky Sibarani revealed the fact that many countries have implemented the concept of environmentally- friendly 'green' investments and present it the way they see fit.

Indonesia falls under the category of countries with the potentiality to implement such concept with the aid of similarly environmentally- friendly technology.

"It is expected that we can generate products with less emissions being exerted during the making process whilst reaching its maximum potential in innovating and implementing ‘green’ business investment," Franky explained through his opening speech for ‘Tropical Landscape Summit: A Global Investment Opportunity’ at Shangrila Jakarta, Monday (27/4/2015).

Franky continued explaining the availability of 7 potential business sectors that could contribute to the preservation of the environment or those that can bee considered as 'green' investment.

These are, agricultural, forestry, fisheries, energy, manufacture and tourism sectors.

"For the past 5 years, 'green' capital investment successfully implemented with it being valued at US$ 41 billion. President Jokowi’s target is more than a double of the aforementioned value. The target is expected to be US$ 1 billion by the end of 2019 in each business sector with 20% growth on annual basis," he concluded. (Akp/Ein)
