Flags Across France Flown at Half-Mast

The recent shooting at Charlie Hebdo has alarmed the nations of the danger terrorism posed to the society.

Liputan6.com, Paris France is now in grief as the recent shooting at the French satirical weekly newspaper Charlie Hebdo jolted many of its citizens. The incident has carried with it, a widespread sense of prolonging insecurity across Europe. The bell from the cathedral in Paris was heard ringing a couple of times as a sign of Paris’ sorrow towards the incident and to commemorate the 12 individuals who have died as a result of it. All public transportations were momentarily put on hold on Thursday 8 January 2015.

"All public transportation in Paris were stopped from operating, children sat down quietly as everyone in Paris undergo a moment of silence to pray for the 12 deceased individuals recently attacked at Charlie Hebdo office," as conveyed by NBC News, Friday (09/01/2015).

Many people was seen crying along the streets near Notre Dame in Paris as they heard the chime ringing a couple of times, marking the deaths of 12 innocent people. Muslim religious teacher in Paris also encourages his fellow Muslim to pray for the victims and to give their last respect for those who were unsuccessful in fighting against the extremist. French President Francois Hollande also instructed the flags across the country to be flown half-mast.

Hollande also encourages his citizens to unite and work together to fight terrorism and make terrorists no longer tolerable. Charlie Hebdo newspaper has been prominently known to have provoked controversies with their published articles mostly present cartoons that may aggravate a number of people. It mostly published cartoons and satires portraying religious and political figures that may be unacceptable for those who were directly attacked by it.

Once, the media has created a caricature of Prophet Muhammad which evidently aggravated a large number of Muslim people. But again, the media stays true to freedom of speech, a concept that is in line with democracy, yet remains unpopular among extremist. The last tweet of Charlie Hebdo spoke about Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, the leader of ISIS. There are some speculations claiming the involvement of this particular group in the recent attack at Charlie Hebdo headquarter, Paris.
